There was a question posed by another blogger, Jason Winter, about what should we expect in the way of sack totals from Jason Allen this year. He ran the numbers of all defenders in history [since they started keeping the stat] from where they had their 15+ sack season and then three years out. The findings were interesting.

What to expect from Jared Allen

With only two players ever repeating their 15+ sack performances the following year, would you be disappointed if Allen's production dropped?

How about if Kevin Williams' and or Ray Edwards'/Brian Robison's shot way up because Allen was sucking up more double teams?

I think if we continue to stop the run, ANY additional pressure on the QB will be a plus for us. Be it sacks or disruptions, pressure from the line will be great. I expect double digit sacks, but forced fumbles or 1-3 yard gains will be fine with me. As been stated before, who do you double? It should be fun to watch this line in 08...

My question in response to this article is this. How many times in history has a player joined a new team after a 15+ sack season? If any, how many of them joined a line with 2 Pro Bowl players? I think that Allen is in a perfect position to not only repeat those numbers but exceed them. Peter King is right, Allen could be looking at close to 20 sacks this year IMO.

If the pass defense goes from 32nd to a top 10, and the run defense stays at or near the top, Allen will be the difference maker whether he registers a sack or not.
