I great fisherman once taught me how to fish walleye on the mississippi and its fool proof. Find a good bend in the river and anchor your boat upstream. Take a lindy rig, it keeps your leader off the bottom. We used minnows or anything. It is fool proof because the walleye wait at river bends as food comes to them. I am not a fisherman at all but my son and I would go out and in less than an hour have our limits. we made blackened walleye but hey thats us we like spicey food. At my Inn I have to cook Minnesota Mild.

BTW Mille Lacs used gill nets so they don't bite like they used to
