By Luft Krigare There has been speculation that Brett Favre would be perfect to lead the Vikings for their 2008 campaign. I strongly disagree, but in a purely hypothetical way let us speculate and weigh the pros and cons with an open mind. There has been so much written about the Brett Favre’s “itch” that as I have theorized before, that he has some sort of prima donna like attention need/disorder, or there is some truth to the rumors [or both].
I have a bunch of questions that might need to be answered prior to accepting the possibility of Brett Favre in Purple. Here they go:
Will he let Childress get in his head and make smart throws, or will he do the free spirit gun slinger type plays that he is known for and helped him earn the all time interception record?
Will having Darren Sharper, Ryan Longwell, and Robert Ferguson on the team help Brett acclimate to the Vikings and their traditions? Or will it be the Brett Favre tradition?
Are Green Bay’s west coast offense and the KAO west coast variation that Brad Childress runs basically the same O?
Has Childress invested too much of his credibility into Tarvaris Jackson to even consider it?
Will having Brett wearing the #4 in Purple help get the new stadium built? (Only if the politicians in the legislature were closet Packer fans.)
How will the Vikings fan faithful react to a player they may respect, but have considered the enemy for a decade and half? See Gonzo’s opinion over at the Daily Norseman for a hint.
Will the rest of the Vikings players accept him? Will Tarvaris Jackson accept the demotion?
Can Brett learn quickly enough the new terminology of the KAO?
Can Brett and the receivers develop enough chemistry to make the passing attack successful? Can he earn and develop the chemistry and respect of his offensive line?
Would Kevin Williams plow him into the ground [or carpet of the locker room] just because that is what he has been trained and conditioned to do ever since he was drafted?
Can Brett be the team leader that Tarvaris has already become?
Will Green Bay be foolish enough to let Brett come to the best division rival?
Does Brett really want to play again or is it the attention thing?
Those are a few of the questions that would have to have answers right and correct before you should ever even think about Favre becoming a Viking. I guess I didn't do much weighing of the pros and implied the cons. How many more questions or qualifiers can you come up with?
Odin will never allow his enemy to lead his warriors into battle, and neither will Zygi Wilf.
