Joe Kapp is a well-known and highly respected personality in the United States, Canada.

Joseph Robert Kapp (born March 19, 1938 in Santa Fe, New Mexico) is a former professional American and Canadian football quarterback. He is also a former college football head coach of the University of California, and a former general manager of the CFL's B.C. Lions. Kapp played primarily with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings and the CFL's British Columbia Lions during the 1960-70's. He is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame, the B.C. Lions Wall of Fame, the College Football Hall of Fame, and the University of California Athletic Hall of Fame. Kapp's #22 jersey is one of eight numbers retired by the Lions. In November, 2006, Kapp was voted to the Honour Roll of the CFL's top 50 players of the league's modern era by Canadian sports network TSN. Sports Illustrated once called him "The Toughest Chicano."

Joe KappKapp led the Minnesota Vikings to their first-ever divisional title and playoff game in 1968 and the following year guided the Vikings to Super Bowl IV against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 1964, Kapp led the CFL British Columbia Lions to their first Grey Cup win, and earned a spot in the CFL Hall of Fame. He is the only player to quarterback in an NFL Super Bowl, CFL Grey Cup and NCAA Rose Bowl games.

Joe Kapp is the last quarterback to throw seven touchdown passes in an NFL game!

Joe Kapp has a long successful history in the Bay Area going back to the late 1950's when he led the Cal Bears to their last Rose Bowl appearance and played on Pete Newell's NCAA Championship Basketball Team.

Most recently, from 1982-86, he served as Coach of the Cal Bears earning PAC-10 Coach of the Year honors in 1982. Kapp was also the architect of what millions of fans consider the most exciting play in the history of college football, Cal's heart stopping comeback defeat of John Elway led Stanford, using a five-lateral kick-off return with only :04 left in the game. That moment went down in history as "The Play"!
