Saints vs Vikings
NFC Championship
1.24.10 - The Superdome - New Orleans, LA.
Opening Line : Vikings +4 Current Line : Vikings +3.5
Over/Under : 52 Over/Under : 52.5
Here we are - the NFC Championship game. What a roller coaster ride we've had with our Vikings this season. I've seen this game coming down the track like two Lionel Locomotives heading for each other with Gomez Addams at the controls. If you've never seen the Addams family episode to which I'm referring - Gomez Addams has two trains simultaneously going around the track and he throws a switch at the last second so that the two trains are cruising for a head-on collision. Of course he blows up the bridge that they are both on - just before they hit !? Well the Superdome is going to act as the bridge - and the two trains will be the NO Saints and the Minnesota Vikings. If we could have only pulled that Bears game out; or showed up vs the Panthers and/or Cardinals game...the Saints would be marching into the Homer Dome. Oh when those Vikes...come marching in !!
The formula to the Vikings winning this game is quite simple. Brett Favre and our offense needs to have long extended drives that end in a score. No turnovers for AP, no strips, and we keep Drew Brees and the Saints offense off the field. The Vikes defense needs to make the tackle on the 1st hit and wrap 'em up with a couple more of us coming. If our defense disrupts Brees and the pass game - I am more than confident that our run defense will keep Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas in check. We need our DEFENSE to come up with a couple big three and outs. The game come down to a field goal and we got LONG - WELL for our kicker. You know with a name like that for a PK...we can't miss !!
If you remember I put a C Note on the Vikings to win the Superbowl before the season started at 14-1. (they are currently 5-1) I am considering betting the Saints ML to hedge my Superbowl bet. Essentially I would be hedging my feelings. On one hand - I hate to bet against my Vikings; but on the other hand if they lose I at least win $500. If the Vikings win - I still have a chance to hit my $1400 Vikes "Superbowl winner" bet. So I either win $$ or the Vikes go to the Superbowl and I still have a chance to win some $$. Now that's betting with your head and parlaying your heart !?
Greg the Greek's stats for the preseason and Vikings regular season games for this year: I was 11 - 8 - 1 betting on Vikings sides and 10 - 10 on over/under for the year.
My prediction: Vikings & Under
Vikings - 24
Saints - 21
Disclaimer I am a die-hard Vikings fan. This in no was sways my decision when it comes to wagering. I learned a long time ago to bet with your head not your heart; unless you can hedge.
Go Vikings...(sound of the Alpine Horn in the background)
