Word out today, plus an inadvertent sneak preview last week builds to the official announcement that Brett Farve, owner of the all time interception record, will call it quits.  Vikings fans everywhere will have mixed emotions, happy that he won't antagonize us any further, but sad to see someone that enjoyed the game so much hang up his cleats.

FAVRE TO RETIRE

Posted by Mike Florio on March 4, 2008, 9:43 a.m.

Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that Packers quarterback Brett Favre is retiring.

The news also is being reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald, citing Favre’s brother, Scott, as the source.

We’ll let someone else figure out who had it first.

Glazer says that it’s believed that Favre has informed the team of the decision within the past few days, and that it’s not known when the team will announce it.  (Maybe they were getting ready to do so last week when that “breaking news” item regarding Favre’s decision to call it quits showed up on their live web site.)

But the door isn’t completely closed.  Writes Glazer:  “Favre has made his decision and will likely make it publicly known soon.  However, like in the past, Favre could wake up any day now and decide to change his mind, although that doesn’t seem likely at this point.”

It’s amazing to us that Favre would quit after turning back the clock with a stellar 2007 campaign, especially since it ended with an interception that prevented Favre and the Packers from returning to the Super Bowl.  His career deserves a much better final act, and we’ll suspect that he’ll be haunted by the final moments of that game for years to come.

This thread discusses the Content article: Brett Favre is DONE!

Shedding a tear? Not even close. Laughing? You betcha!

I admired Brettney's love for the game, but I'm quite pleased to hear the news. That instantly makes the Vikings the favorites for the NFC North.

Good luck to you in retirement Mr. Favre.

I am glad to see him go because now I can actually appreciate all of his accomplishments and not feel only hatred for his abilities. It's not every player than can hang them up while still at the top of his game and I'm glad he went out with such a good season (even if it didn't end like he'd have wanted).

It's been so hard hating such a talented player but now the Packers can feel that way about Peterson for years to come.

More importantly... he goes out knowing he cost his team a trip to the superbowl with that lame duck interception in OT at the NFC championship game.

Just can't wait to see all the packer fans around here (TN) who were anticipating his visit here next year. Man that's gotta hurt!

Yes, glad he's gone. I feel like Cobra, he was a hard man to hate. Anyone that caused so much emotion out of us, the hatred for his success and the glee of his INTs - is going to be missed in some way.

One thing I have no doubt about though is that he would've stayed had they gotten Moss. Looks a little bit like pouting if you ask me.

I've been saying for years that Far-ve will retire after he sets the TD record. Packer fans I know said, no he doesn't play for records or individual glory. Yeah right. It's tough being right all the time

Brett Favre: Life after green bay

OMG!!! I just had the worst dream.... and I fear that this will come true... in fact, I don't know how it can't come true!

Now that Favrey is done playing for the pack... the networks will be SWOOONING after him with their sick man love. They will fight to make him their new sports caster.

Auuuuuuuugh! ABC - NBC - ESPN - NFL - Heck even the frackin golf channel would even want him!!!! (which when i stop to think about it would be ok I guess... cause I don't watch the golf channel)

Or even worse... What if they make him an announcer!?!?!!

The only thing I can think of worse than having Madden talking about Farve for three hours during a game is having Farve be talking for three hours!!!

feel....... .. panic...... ... attack.... coming.... must .... resist....

Maybe Farve won't work for ESPN after Sal Paolantonio had the nerve to write this article saying that he's NOT actually God.

Florio has a a post on post playing days subject FAVRE CASHING IN and guesses that, "Favre would end up in the booth, doing color commentary."

All I ask is that it is not with John Madden [and the lovefest that would ensue] and not for Vikings games. I don't want to hear it.

As far as your link Ozzy, that had to be the greatest Brettney Favre story I have ever read. Thank you pointing out that someone sees the truth. I highly encourage all VV fanatics to go read it. It will make your day. You might even want to send the link to your Cheeser acquaintances and watch their reactions.

Karma again Ozzy for bringing such quality to VV.
