Troy Williamson [our own "Clifford Franklin"] will be traded to the Jaguars as soon as free agency opens.  Word has it that the Vikings will receive a sixth round selection for moving the gift of the dropsies to the AFC team.

Williamson to go to Jaguars

Vikings receiver Troy Williamson was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2005 draft, but dropping wide-open passes such as this one against Denver in December made him expendable.

A few minor issues must be settled before Thursday, when the trading and free-agency period begins, but the Vikings should get a sixth-round pick for the receiver.

A few secondary items remain unresolved. But those issues should be ironed out by 11 p.m. Thursday, when the NFL's trading and free-agency period officially begins. Officials from both teams are prohibited from commenting until then.

Reached by telephone Monday night, Williamson said he was unaware the deal had been completed and declined further comment. In Jacksonville, he would be reunited with former Vikings coach Mike Tice, now the Jaguars assistant head coach.

Speaking Friday, when the Vikings gave agent David Canter permission to seek a trade, Williamson said: "When things don't go the way I feel they should have gone, of course I'm disappointed. But I've made it work for me and tried to be positive in everything I do."

The deal enables the Vikings some grace in parting ways with one of their all-time draft busts. The No. 7 overall pick in 2005, Williamson caught 79 passes for 1,067 yards and three touchdowns with the Vikings.

His three-year career has been more notable for the catches he hasn't made. His speed made him the prototypical deep threat, but his inability to judge the long pass was a constant source of frustration for the Vikings.

A Nike specialist determined last spring that his left eye was stronger than the right, causing depth perception problems. But prescribed exercises made little difference last season. Drops are not an official NFL statistic, but observers conservatively estimated he had at least 25 in 39 career games.

Williamson ran into controversy off the field as well. In 2006, he was punched by a security guard during a charity concert sponsored by safety Darren Sharper. His fate with the Vikings seemed sealed midway through last season; team officials temporarily withheld his paycheck after he left the team for nine days following the death of his grandmother.

The Vikings are expected to make the receiver position one of their primary targets in the free-agent period. Chicago's Bernard Berrian could be their top choice.

Yessssss!

I'm not one to easily let go of a current Viking... but Williamson and the Vikings can only get better by the divorce.

I'll be glad to see him go, and even happier to get any sort of draft pick for him. This says a lot about the state of NFL receiving when 8 teams were interested in a receiver who consistently drops wide open td passes. It won't be too tough to replace his 240 yds receiving and 1 td this year.

I still think we should kept him and converted him to CB... he knows the routes and can outrun 98% of the WR out there.

as lord Madden would say "Just stick your hand in there and WAP IT DOWN!"

Wow, a 6th rounder for him? Honestly, that's sweet.

I feel bad that things didn't work out in Minnesota for Williamson, because he seems like a genuinely decent human being, but next to Demetrius Underwood, he's gotta be one of the biggest first round busts the Vikings ever had.

Jags seem pretty happy to get Williamson.

The Jaguars announced the acquisition of another speed receiver earlier on Friday. Troy Williamson was acquired from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

“We’re giving Troy a chance. I met with him this morning and talked about the opportunity for him to come down here and just rejuvenate himself, have fun and don’t worry about the high expectations that were associated with his selection in (Minnesota). Just come down here and join our football team and have fun competing every day and work with (wide receivers coach) Todd Monken and the offensive staff and work on improving his game and see where it goes,” Del Rio said.

Clearly, the Jaguars were intent on improving their speed at wide receiver. They allowed their leading receiver from last season, Ernest Wilford, to enter unrestricted free agency on Friday, largely because Wilford lacked the speed the Jaguars want at the position.

Rest of the story @ Jags dot com

Somehow... it kinda reminds me of going to a garage sale and finding a beer mug for 50 cents! Woo Hoo!.... I hope you find your "happy place"... godspeed Troy.
