Coach Leslie Fraizer earned a title change and contract extension.

Frazier named asst. head coach

March 19th, 2008 – 4:16 PM by Kevin Seifert

The Vikings have given defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier the additional title of assistant head coach. Head coach Brad Childress made the announcement today in a conference call.

“It’s a natural progression for Leslie,” Childress said.

Frazier was a finalist for two head coaching jobs this offseason, in Miami and Atlanta, and Childress said: “I view him as a future head coach in this league.”

Good for coach Fraizer. He got an extension through 2009 which was needed or he might have been seen as a little bit of a lame duck in 2008.

I wonder how many other contracts are due to expire at the end of this year?

I'm glad he got the extension.

I hope he can take the new talent from free agency and the draft and build secondary into the same type of powerhouse as our run stopping defense is now.

SKOL COACH FRAZIER!

Anyone else see this as a fall back plan in case Childress can't put it together this year? Wilf is supporting him now but I see this as insurance for when Zygi loses his patience. The assistant head coach would be the most logical choice and could keep potential turnover to a minimum.

That thought ran across my mind too. Especially if you figure how well in the new head coach hiring cycle he did last year after one year as a DC. Throw in this added title and responsibility (?) and he will be even more prime going into 2009.
